Here at Dmworx Ltd, our interest in BMWs does not end on the road! It was late in 2005 when the passion for the track began in the form of a Track Day at Donington Park, after which several UK Track Day trips to the Infamous Nurburgring were arranged. This turned out to be a mind-blowing experience, which laid the foundations for the years to come. After numerous trips through 2006 in our, by now, well fettled E36 M3 Track Car, a fresh car was built to be left out in Germany for 2007 and much of 2008.
By 2009, a new challenge beckoned in the form of racing... The M3 was prepared for the 2009 BMW Kumho Championship, which for a rookie driver/team was successfully campaigned. The learning curve was steep but a huge continual effort meant that by the second half of the season we were at the sharp end in this VERY competitive Championship.
In 2010, we saw a new car/driver line up. Gone was the E36, making way for the next generation E46 M3. Once Russell had the new car up and running, he decided to enter the CSL Cup with himself as the pilot. This proved to be a fantastic experience all round, claiming several poles, two wins and a fastest lap; not to mention new friends.
Unfortunately, in 2011, due to work commitments only one round of the GT Cup was attended, which was at Brands Hatch. Despite the weather being miserable most of the weekend, the car performed well, claiming 4th fastest overall in the wet practice session followed by Class Pole (11th overall), and finishing with a Class Win (9th overall).
The beginning of 2012 provides another learning curve in the form of the BTCC & Team ES Racing. Russell is this season, part of a great team behind drivers Chris James & Dave Newsham in the British Touring Car Championship. Having enjoyed a great start to the year let's hope it continues....
Much of 2013/14 was spent building a Group 5 CSL, we managed to make the the last race in the series at Oulton Park. After a very exciting race we took the honours with Steve Guglielmi and ex F1 racer Mike Wilds taking the chequered flag after a 50 minute two driver race. Fast forward to May 2016, Brands Hatch Masters historic festival. We had a very successful day of testing on the Friday which was very promising. Qualifying went well putting us in P2 after a minor issue with the gear lever, unfortunately during the race tragedy struck from P1 in the form of a dropped valve seat finishing our race..
Until next time..
